Why Brooke Shields Feels Sexier Than Ever at 56

Brooke Shields has been considered one of the world’s most gorgeous women for decades, but it’s still taken a long time for her to feel comfortable in her body. Now 56 and feeling more confident than ever, the superstar recently shared what she’s learned about finding possibility in her aging beauty.

In an interview with Yahoo!, Shields gave a rare look into her lifelong battle to accept her body. She admits to feeling her best as she gets older, even if the world around her tries to send a very different message to women who are past their childbearing years.

“Confidence is the sexiest thing I’ve ever encountered.”

“I’m continually learning how to love myself. It’s not something that’s easy … I believe it’s a misconception that women can’t be sexy over a certain age,” she says. “The acceptance of our bodies come at a later date. I live much more in my body now than I ever did. My body actually feels like it belongs to me. And I can’t say that about my youth.”

Now a mom to two daughters — 18-year-old Rowan and 15-year-old Grier — Shields sees greater possibilities ahead for her than ever before — and none of them are limited by her age.

“I think there is a misconception that if you are not of childbearing ability, you don’t seem to matter in the world. Because you do not keep the world going anymore. There’s vitality in us,” she says of older women. “It shows itself in confidence. We walk into rooms now and kind of think, ‘Well, I got nothing to lose.’ There’s an uncomplicated nature to it. Confidence is the sexiest thing that I’ve ever encountered.”

Keeping the Spark Alive After 20 Years of Marriage

If anything, this new sense of confidence has made her relationship with her screenwriter husband Chris Henchy better. Two decades into their marriage, Shields shared some advice on how she keeps the spark alive.

“You have to carve out time to remind yourself that you are in this relationship first. I’m not saying it takes precedence over your children. Children are everything,” she says. “But you can’t lose sight of date night, or romance. You don’t want it to become, like, a chore. You know?”

In the end, Shields has a clear parting message: “With age comes this sense of confidence and knowledge.”

That’s a message we can (confidently) get behind!
