PLANT MOMS RISE | Her Campus

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been tempted to transform your bedroom into what looks like a garden nursery every few months. Unfortunately, I never actually brought myself to do it. Plant shopping can be expensive and time-consuming, and picking the perfect plant for the right corner of your room is much easier said than done.

Despite the initial challenges, I urge you to take that next step and undergo the full transformation: do the research and go out and buy the plants of your dreams.

To get started, consult a few handy Pinterest charts, and keep an eye out for sales at local nurseries. Think of plant-shopping as an errand rather than an outing. That way, you can check things off your to-do list while still enjoying your time out.

The first benefit of decorating your room with plants is the fresher air they bring you! Plants produce oxygen and act as carbon sinks, removing carbon from the air throughout the day. The snake plant is a house-favorite, known for its ability to remove pollutants from the air.

Furthermore, filling your room with the color green is thought to improve your mood. According to color psychology, seeing the color green helps people to feel “optimistic and refreshed.” This mood-booster is the perfect antidote to the mid-semester slump we’ve all felt at some point.

Owning plants is a hobby as well as a responsibility. They give you an opportunity to take care of a living thing without the pressure that comes with taking care of a pet or another human being. At the same time, maintaining such an indoor garden is rewarding and the hanging plants on your ceiling, the potted plants on your dresser, and the succulents on your nightstand all work to form a mini plant family.

Overall, I truly believe that plants are the best kind of decor: they’re a minimalist touch, yet they add so much to your room. Just one succulent can change the entire atmosphere. Try it out!
